This unique grape was first developed in 1922 by Austrian biologist Fritz Zweigelt when he crossed St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch grapes. Since then, Zweigelt has gone on to become the most widely grown grape in Austria. North Mountain was the first Virginia winery to grow, produce, and bottle this wine. It has a light-medium body, is fruit forward, with low tannins and high acid.
